Things to know before your emergency dentist appointment

Preparing for your emergency dental visit will help minimize anxiety and reduce the overall time you will have to spend at the dentist office.

Checklist prior to visiting an emergency dentist in Washington, D.C.In case you have a fear of the dentist, you can follow some of our advice to relax before and during your treatment. Don’t drink caffeinated drinks or eat too much sugar on the day of your dentist appointment because it will make you jittery, and therefore, more nervous. It is always a good idea to come at least 15 minutes early to your appointment. You will have enough time to get used to your surroundings, and fill out all the forms the staff at the office gives you. If you want, bring a friend with you to keep you company, because you will feel less anxious if there is someone you trust next to you while waiting to start your procedure.

We can locate a dentist for you that specializes in sedation dentistry. When you call us, tell us about the severity of your problem, or about your anxiety and we will make sure you have an appointment scheduled with a dentist that uses general anesthesia, IV sedation, oral medication or laughing gas. Depending on your procedure and the level of your anxiety, the dentist will, along with you, decide what kind of sedation you need. Laughing gas and oral medication are used for standard procedures, while IV sedation and general anesthesia are used for more complicated ones, and when your anxiety is so high that other methods cannot be used.

Top emergency dentist procedures in Washington, D.C.

Learn about common dental emergencies and treatments.

Illustration of top dental emergencies in Washington, D.C.The most common emergency procedure in District of Columbia is treatment of a chipped or a broken tooth. If your tooth gets chipped, you should treat it as an emergency, even if it doesn’t seem so. The reason is that a chipped tooth isn’t as structurally stable as before, and can either completely fracture, or an infection can form, making the dentist have to perform a root canal, or in more severe cases, extract the tooth. In case the dentist has to perform a root canal treatment, you will most likely have to get a crown as well. If you want to make a crown on the same day, we will schedule an appointment for you with a dentist that makes CEREC crowns. These are made using the latest technologies, where your tooth is scanned, and a new one is produced and put in on the same day, eliminating the need of going to the dentist several times for scanning, putting in a temporary crown and fitting the new one.
